The Property Management Services Authority Meets with DAB Business and Professional Branch for Exchange

The Property Management Services Authority (PMSA) met today with members from the Business and Professional Branch of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB), led by its Vice-Chairman Mr Holden Chau, to introduce the work of the PMSA and the latest position about the implementation of the property management (PM) industry licensing regime in Hong Kong, and exchanged views on regulation, formulation of codes of conduct, use of technology and sustainable development of the PM industry. In addition, there were also exchanges on how the PM industry could participate in “Joint Property Management” as set out in the Chief Executive’s Policy Address to improve PM services in “three-nil buildings”.

Dr James Wong, Chairperson of the PMSA, said during the exchange, “The DAB Business and Professional Branch cares very much about building maintenance issues, and the district work undertaken by its representatives is closely related to various aspects of the PM industry. Recently, the PMSA has actively engaged with the 18 District Councils, and have conducted interactive exchanges with 14 of them to date, laying a solid foundation for collaboration with District Councils and local stakeholders to deal with district-level PM issues.”

Dr James Wong emphasized, “The PMSA carries the responsibilities of regulating PM companies and practitioners providing PM services in Hong Kong as well as driving the professional development of the industry. Through implementing a licensing regime and other complementary measures, the PMSA drives and encourages the development of the PM industry towards quality and professionalism. The PMSA relies on the continuous support of stakeholders, including councillors at different levels and local community members. The DAB has consistently supported the work of the PMSA and has made significant contributions to nurturing the next generation of professionals across various sectors. The PMSA will continue to work with the DAB and other organisations to enhance the professionalism of Hong Kong’s PM industry for the provision of quality PM services to the public, thereby creating building a harmonious and caring community.

Under the licensing regime, there are now more than 800 licensed PM companies and over 15,000 licensed PM practitioners in the market, providing PM services to over 2.4 million units in different types of properties in Hong Kong. This major professional force not only provides quality and professional PM services to the public, but can also support the implementation of various Government policies and help resolve different social issues, actively contributing towards healthy and sustainable future development. They are undoubtedly invaluable assets and crucial resources of Hong Kong.
